Goals
For our purpose we can define a goal as – a specific change that you would like to make in your life.
To create truly effective goals:
* Be as specific as you can.
* Break down large goals into smaller more manageable goals.
* Make your goal positive, something you want to achieve.
* Make your goal something you are responsible for and have control of.
* Make you goals measurable for progress toward and achieving your goals.
* Set a time frame for achieving your goals.
Now make your goal real. Write it down, tell someone,
maybe even hire a life coach.
* My specific goal is …
* If this is part of a larger goal, the larger goal is …
* The steps to achieving this goal are …
* I will measure my progress by …
* I will know I have achieved my goal when …
* I plan to achieve my goal on this date …
False Goals
Money is not a goal, money is a byproduct of a goal, not the goal. You must do something else first in order to get it. Once you get the money having it only represents something else, security, safety, power, status, the list goes on. So the first question is what are you really trying to accomplish by having money and are there other ways, maybe even better ways to get what you really want? Secondly if you are going to be making money you may as well be doing something you like.
Happiness is only a byproduct like money, you must do something else first. The good news is because you have control over what you do you have control over whether you are happy. Don’t confuse happiness with fun. When it’s fun it’s temporary and leaves you wanting more. Happiness can be fun but may not be fun at all, maybe even hard work but it lasts. So what activities would make you happy? What activities have made you happy in the past?
These are only the basics, there is so much more to discuss. If you leave a comment I will get back with an answer.
