ADHD isn’t real?

Some people believe ADHD isn’t a real disorder, and won’t change their minds about it. That’s okay, I’m not going to try. Unfortunately, these people tend to be very vocal with their opinions, which I believe are based on the lack of information! I don’t worry too much about them. I do worry about the ADHDers who believe these unfounded opinions. For those who are actually looking for information, here is some of  what I have learned about the reality of ADHD. By the way, I am a life coach, not a doctor, so please check these facts for yourself as I have done!

Dr. Daniel Amen, in his book Healing ADD, explains his brain-imaging research regarding the increase or decrease of blood flow to particular areas in the brain. As a result of his extensive research, Dr. Amen has identified several distinct types of ADD and ADHD and described particular behaviors and traits associated with each. His long standing ability to diagnose and subsequently treat each type is highly successful. Your family doctor is unlikely to have this expertise or the equipment needed to correctly diagnose and successfully treat any of the several types of ADD and ADHD. I like to suggest the use of specifically trained psychologists and psychiatrists to help individuals and their families in the diagnostic process and appropriate treatment.
