I have been getting requests for more information about the ADHD Advantage so I’ll be doing a series of posts. Each post will deal with a particular ADHD Advantage, what it is, how to use it and how to keep it under control.
The single most important thread that runs though all of the ADHD Advantages is interest. If we are not interested in a subject or activity we struggle with it and the  harder we try the worse it gets. The problem is we are often confused about what we are interested in. We are often told what we should be good at or what we should be interested in until we start to believe it. Believing it still does not make it true. Then there are the things that are easy for us, so easy we don’t even notice.
Your body will tell you what you like and what you don’t. Start paying attention when you are working on an activity, are you energized, can you focus without trying, does it come easier for you than other activities? Or do you suddenly feel tired, get distracted, is it just hard work?
So keep in mind that for the most part these ADHD Advantages work only on activities that you really like to do and at those things you will truly excel. Like every rule of thumb there are exceptions and we will be covering some of those as well.

There’s a great book called The Gift of Adult ADHD, by Lara Honos Webb. We read the book in the http://www.ADDBookClub.com, and I was really struck by it’s unique tone that focuses on the advantages of ADHD.
